The past season has been one of upheaval combined with the untimely loss of our long serving Secretary Mike Stanley; followed recently by another founding member and Chairman of the League for some 30 years Maurice Webster, who like Mike worked tirelessly to mould the league into what it is today. What a splendid legacy for both.
The loss of the League Secretary, caused a crisis that we were really not prepared for however we were lucky to receive a number of applicants for the position and we were indeed fortunate to secure the services of Peter Stewart who hails from Swindon and a member club Westlecot. He has run the past season in a professional manner, direct but fair.
The past season 2016/17 was successfully completed and the winner Clarrie Dunbar duly celebrated in the traditional manner. The League Executive would like to thank Moonfleet, Oxford City & County and Bristol City & County for kindly staging the semi - finals and final respectively. The League Executive is now looking forward to the challenges of the 35th consecutive season of the Wessex league. We are pleased to extend a warm welcome to Atherley and the return of Clevedon ; there may indeed be one more new club joining but at present we are awaiting a decision by the Club board. Watch this space.
Changes are being made to the league structure with the introduction of items of merchandise, new emblem, stickers, new website etc; these will be the subject of an EGM to be held at Cotswold IBC on September 10th.
This coming season will see the league matches returning to 21 ends and 4 hours at the direction of the EIBA and as the league is modelled on the Denny Cup.
Along with my colleagues of the Executive we will provide you with yet another season of competitive bowling along with fair and sound administrative support. Good luck and good bowling for 2017/18.
