Message FROM THE CHAIRMAN - DENIS HOLBOROW

Hello everyone.  As your new Chairman, I would like to introduce myself to the Wessex League clubs.

I started bowling in the 1990's for a local club in my home town of Swindon before moving indoors to Westlecot BC as a player and then fixture secretary.  Later I took over as team manager for Westlecot in the Wessex League. A few years ago I moved to Weston-super-Mare where I joined the area's leading indoor club St Andrews.  They had re-joined the Wessex League a couple of years previously and, after one season as a player I became the men's indoor captain, a post I have held for the last three years, during which time we have enjoyed considerable success.

I was delighted to be nominated at the AGM to become Chairman of the Wessex League in succession to Dave Murley.  I am proud to be involved with such a great League and hope to lead it as well as Dave did with the support of League Treasurer, Debroy Gregory and League Secretary, Peter Stewart.

I am sorry to learn that Rugby Mayflowers will not be participating in the League in 2024-2025 and should circumstances change in the future they will be welcomed back.  I hear that the League Secretary has approached a number of clubs to gauge their interest in joining the League, let's hope some or all of these approaches are successful.

Finally my congratulations go to Barwell, a new name on the Wessex League roll of honour, and I look forward to presenting the trophy to the 2024-2025 Champion club in April 2025.

The Wessex Bowls League was founded in 1983 as a premier bowls league offering top class competition to major indoor clubs on a regular basis.
